1. ICSSR – Short-Term Research Project

Project Title : Effectiveness of Institution Innovation Councils (IICs) in Promoting Interdisciplinary Innovation in Public Universities in Delhi

    About the Project

This short-term research project, funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), investigates the effectiveness of Institution's Innovation Councils (IICs) in promoting interdisciplinary innovation in public universities in Delhi.

Launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through its Innovation Cell (MIC), the Institution's Innovation Council programme was designed to systematically foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in higher educational institutions, with an explicit mandate to encourage interdisciplinary project development and problem-solving.

While IICs have been widely established across the country, their actual effectiveness in cultivating genuine cross-disciplinary collaboration within the distinct ecosystem of public universities—which serve a diverse and socioeconomically heterogeneous student body—remains critically underexplored.

Rooted in the social science of higher education policy and institutional behaviour, this study employs a mixed-methods approach to examine the structural, administrative, and pedagogical factors that enable or constrain interdisciplinary innovation within IICs at public universities in Delhi.
